Miner Health

Control of the cutting process relies heavily upon the operator's sense (sound, sight, feel), and requires considerable experience to achieve cutting efficiency. Typically, an operator will position himself as far forward toward the coal face as safety regulations will allow. With Geosteering, he can do a better job while at a greater distance behind the CM.

  • TramGuardTM can be used in combination with the Geosteering-RAS to better assure safety and health of the operator.
  • Combining TramGuardTM and Geosteering-RAS, keeps the operator farther from the face and CM.
  • With Geosteering-RAS the operator is further from the CM which will reduce the noise level.
  • During cutting at the floor, the CM operator must be constantly looking (or “feeling”) where the cutter is relative to the fireclay. With Geosteering-RAS taking control for completing the shear-down stroke, the operator can now concentrate more on other tasks, including his safety and the safety of others that may be nearby.
  • With the use of Geosteering-RAS the operator can move to a new location were he is exposed to less dust and flying debris.
  • Operator can better concentrate on heading, location, less loading spillage.
  • Smoother roads reduce driver fatigue
  • Less ergonomics strain on operator’s hands
  • Reduce mental strain.

“The mining industry has experienced 26 fatal crushing or pinning accidents since 1988 that involve the operation of remote control continuous miners. In most of these accidents, the miner, helper or other worker, was located within the danger zone (red zone) around the machine when the accident occurred.”
